THE LOCATION (40 13' 52.50 N and 26 19' 38.04 E): The hotel is located in the heart of the Gallipoli National Park, tucked away in the small village of Kocadere.
This priviliged location makes the Gallipoli Houses an ideal base to explore the Gallipoli battlefields; Anzac Cove is 8 km away whereas V-beach in Helles and the Suvla salt lake are respectively 26 and 18 km away from the hotel. (As there is no public transport to the village, guests without their own transport will have to rely on taxis)
THE HOTEL: To preserve the harmony with this small farming community, the hotel has 10 rooms only and much attention was given to the overall design to blend in with the surroundings. A special effort was made to create an atmosphere of peace, tranquility and space for reflection.
The roof terrace commands a great view, overlooking the village and the Third Ridge of the Anzac battlefields. A popular place for a pre-dinner or a "stargazer" after-dinner drink. Those visiting us in late autumn and early spring will enjoy the homely atmosphere of the fireplace.
THE ROOMS: are all en-suite and have been designed with modesty yet fitted-out with everything necessary for a comfortable stay; every room features a walk-in shower, coffee and tea making facilities. Air conditioning in the rooms and dining area provides coolness in summer, an under-floor heating system warmth in late autumn and early spring. Wireless ADSL internet covers foyer and dining area and some of the guest-rooms. We also have a PC with internet connection in the lobby for our guests.
THE MEALS: To further emphasise this atmosphere of privacy at the hotel, meals and drinks are served to residents only.
Breakfast is of the sort that one saves for a beloved friend on a Sunday morning and can be hearty or healthy: fruit juices, cereals, fried eggs, fresh bread, home-made jams and spreads, cheeses and cold cuts, fresh seasonal fruit and freshly-brewed coffee or tea. (breakfast is served every morning between 8am and 10am)
As there are no restaurants or eateries in the village, we provide evening meals from Monday through to Friday (not on Saturday and Sunday) and they are included in our rates. Dinner is a four course table d'hote dinner, for which we use fresh produce, locally-sourced whenever possible. Although we do serve some "Turkish classics", many of our dishes have a little "world" influence. "Turkish with a twist" is what one of our guests aptly called the unpretentious home-cooked food we serve. (dinner is served Monday to Friday evenings at 20pm) If we are advised in advance, we will do our best to meet dietary requirements.
The Gallipoli Houses is fully licensed and offers a good range of alcoholic beverages, including beer, spirits and a rather elaborate selection of regional wines.
Lunch is not served at the hotel but we will be happy to give you some advice on local restaurants and eateries where you could go for lunch. Alternatively a "knapsack" can be prepared from the breakfast table.
THE COST: The longer you stay, the cheaper it gets.
... The location is superb -you are just east of Kemalyeri and within sight of Chunuk Bair- in the village of Kocadere. Anzac is about 10-15 minutes comfortable drive away and Suvla only a few minutes more ... Helles takes a little longer but 20-25 minutes would be about the norm. This makes it a lot easier than staying in a Canakkale hotel and taking the ferry ...
